Honored samurai, ruthless ronin, wayward vagabonds, shadowy ninja and helpless villagers... welcome.
Opening Volley
Flip-flop weather kept me indoors today. But it’s Friday, the beginning of a three-day weekend, so no loss. Chilled with The Dead Zone, the 1983 American thriller helmed by David Cronenberg. Loved it, but honestly, maybe a little too real for comfort.
Main Event
Scrolling through the apocryphal wastelands of the digirati this morning, I stumbled upon an amazing gem entitled Doctor Death. Seems the 80s was calling. Who am I to deny? Written, directed and filmed by then-teen Webster Colcord and his family in the late 80s. Apparently inspired by Metalstorm: The Destruction Of Jared-Syn (1983) which it outclasses in every respect — storytelling, worldbuilding, and characterization. Moreover, it does it with Z-3-R-0 dialogue and a killer synth soundtrack. (Source)
Though just 18 minutes long, Doctor Death is a gripping, imaginative tale by a young mind. Boy, if I only had had half the brains then that Colcard did.
I’m dropping two links. They are the SAME indie flick.
The first, however, is an “enhanced” VHS-rip.
And the second a non-enhanced DVD-rip by Colcord himself.
We never meet without parting
Next issue... Chokepoint, a hard scifi dystopian web manga by MACKLE. Creepy AF. At some point around Halloween, I’d like to drop a semi-rough scene for the Castle Oblivion novel. We’ll see how that pans. Hopefully, not Peter.
Until then!
