I'll back that theory. Most (all?) of it was created by post-war adults who grew up in a time of great rebuilding that was laced with hope and fear and wonder. Creators today were given everything they have, they grew up in a level of affluence that deadens that drive and desire. I'm not saying they aren't creative, they just see the world in a different way and create differently.
I caught The Thing at my independent theater last month. I know I'm getting old, but they don't make 'em like they used to.
